New To Nursery

Transition from Home / Alternate Setting to Nursery (Tiger Cubs)

A very important part of our work within Nursery is in helping to make the transition from home to school as positive as possible. We do this in a number of ways:

Parents and Carer Collaboration
At Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School we value Parents and Carers as the primary educator of their child. As such we involve and engage with Parents and Carers fully in their child's education from transition and beyond.

Parents and Carers are offered opportunity to visit Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School to get to know our 'key' members of staff within Tiger Cubs. These key people will be aware of the emotional needs of your child(ren) and will ensure wherever possible that your home routine has similarities with routines within our setting.

Clear Information Gathering
At Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School we have a clear transition process and welcome procedure, to allow collection of essential information through registration forms and communication with Parents and Carers bespoke to each child in relation to their likes, needs and development.

Getting To Know Our Pupils
At Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School, we adapt our learning environment regularly in Tiger Cubs to reflect the needs and interests of our pupils. Our 'Learning Journey' books not only allow for input from home, but form an onward journal to reception class indicative of of development, need, likes and dislikes.

Building Relationships
Parents and Carers are welcomed into Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School to celebrate key events (Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day, Fathers Day, World Book Day) and to participate in activities within the 'school' environment.

Further Support
We will collect information at point of entry in regards to other professionals who may support your child(ren) or your family. We will ask for parental permission to work with other identified professionals before entry to nursery to ensure we are best placed to meet your child's need.

The First Day
‚ÄčThe first and most important part of our work in the nursery is to help make the first day at school as happy and enjoyable as possible. We do need your help with this and ask you to set aside some time when your child is starting nursery to stay in the setting with them. We feel this is important for a variety of reasons:

  • To allow them to get to know and trust a new group of adults and children
  • For you to see how the nursery works and be familiar with the things they will talk about at home
  • For you to be around to tell us about your child and the things they enjoy doing (or don't enjoy doing)

We ordinarily accept pupils into nursery taking a phased approach as follows:

  • The first day will be just an hour visit with a Parent / Carer present.
  • The second day will be an hour visit without a Parent / Carer present
  • After that, in consultation with staff, the length of the visit will increase gradually until your child is able to stay happily for all of the morning or afternoon session.

Please don't get anxious if transition to a full morning or afternoon session seems to take a while. Our experience has shown that it is important to take this stage slowly.

Please see our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Page or Nursery (Tiger Cubs) Page To Find Out More!

If you have any questions in regards to the transition to Nursery at Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School then please contact Mrs Robinson or Mrs Dixon-Child in the school office.
